“With this object, the artist is instigating an experience or a moment for discourse more so than a burdensome object to preserve and propagate. I was thinking of a Stargate - like -portal investigating the anxiety of departures and arrivals between islands and through time in the diaspora. Especially now with the current storms and pandemic or with the ongoing historical displacements that shape our readings of space - or of belonging. Anyone can choose to make this object or co-opt one that they find in their neighborhood”
